A Job Is a Start. The Floor Comes First.
Oct 20, 2026
Work the first three steps of the Durability Household Company, free, and you finish with three documents you keep.
You will have a completed Household Stability Audit, a completed Asset Inventory, and a completed Offer Screen. Each is an exercise output you produce and control.
The order is the product. The audit gates everything after it, and the screen comes third, so every candidate offer is checked before anyone invests time or money.
This issue announces the Durability Household Company, an entrepreneurial approach to building income and household stability.
It does not promise an outcome. It gives a household an order of operations.
Three Documents You Keep
The free Starter Guide teaches the first three steps of the model, in order. It includes three worksheets you keep: the Household Stability Audit, the Asset Inventory, and the Offer Screen.
The audit comes first, before any business step. It covers housing, supervision conditions, identification and documents, banking access, and a benefits-cliff check.
In the complete curriculum, Unit 1 is called Household Ground First. Its stability audit gates everything after it, and it names supervision and reporting among the items it checks.
The inventory comes second. It lists what the household actually holds: skills, trades, and the problems it knows from the inside.
The full curriculum describes the same unit this way: the household's skills, trades, and lived experience, tested and converted into a short list of problems it may be unusually qualified to solve.
The screen comes third. Every candidate offer is screened against licensing, bonding, background checks, and supervision compatibility before anyone invests time or money.
In the complete curriculum, the third unit is called Choose the Offer. It runs the barriers screen on every candidate offer, including occupational licensing.
Work only these three units, and you hold a completed audit, a completed inventory, and a completed screen, each yours to act on.
The Ground Nobody Measured
A person coming home is told to find a job. Almost nobody says to audit the floor first, though housing, supervision conditions, identification, and banking are the ground every job stands on.
Before the business idea and before the resume, a household has a floor. The audit is how that floor gets measured, and the curriculum treats it as the gate for everything after it.
Skip it, and every later step rests on numbers nobody ran.
The barriers are not a feeling. In occupational licensing, a National Employment Law Project count found 27,254 state restrictions affecting people with criminal records (NELP, April 2016).
That is a 2016 count, and state laws change over time, so read it as the scale of the problem and not as a current total. The lesson holds either way: screen the license before the training, every time.
Here is the receipt you can run yourself. Name the license the work requires, check what your state's official sources say about it, and only then choose the training or the offer.
That order exists so the screen comes before anyone invests time or money. It is the check that comes first.
Two Rules Before Any Business Step
The Durability Household Company is a model in which a person with a criminal record and their family build a small business together, with one operator directing a set of AI tools. It is written for households, not for investors.
Two rules come before everything else, and both belong to the household.
The first rule is addition before replacement. The business starts alongside the income you already have, wherever possible, as an addition to your household's income mix before it is a replacement for any part of it.
The second rule is the pay order. The business pays the household first, on a written rule your family sets, before it pays for anything optional.
Both rules are yours to keep, and neither is a guarantee.
Success has a plain definition here: weeks of expenses covered, income the household controls, and a reserve that survives a bad month.
What This Does Not Claim
Nothing in this curriculum is legal advice, and nothing in it determines anyone's eligibility for anything. Laws on supervision, benefits, occupational licensing, business formation, and taxes differ by state and change over time.
Wherever the curriculum touches a legal topic, it teaches a method instead: find the official answer for your state, use official sources, and follow what they say. You should review the laws that apply where you live.
This model is not presented as proven, tested, or endorsed by anyone. No outcome is promised or implied.
Whether a business creates stability for a household depends on the household's work, its market, and its circumstances. Participation by any family member is voluntary and revocable, at any time, without penalty.
Nobody is unpaid labor by default.
The Order the Curriculum Teaches
The complete curriculum teaches the whole distance in seven units, in order, with a workbook for every unit. The order is the product.
-
Complete the audit, the inventory, and the screen.
Units 1 to 3 are the free Starter Guide, and they run in order: the Household Stability Audit, the Asset Inventory, and the Offer Screen. The three worksheets are yours to keep.
-
Work the first-client play, then set up the company.
Unit 4 covers the free-build play, a clearly labeled worked example, outreach as a numbers practice, and asking for the monthly fee. Unit 5 covers structure, tax identification, the business bank account, bookkeeping, and the tax set-aside rule the family writes before the first payment, with the legal questions taught as questions to verify with official sources.
-
Build the household's operating system, then review it weekly.
Unit 6 covers named seats filled by consent, the family charter, the weekly money meeting, and paying the household first as a practice, not a sentiment. Unit 7 covers the weekly review loop, the client ladder, the durability metrics, and review discipline for AI output.
Three orders hold throughout. The audit gates everything after it, the license is screened before the training, and the household is paid first, before anything optional.
The curriculum also carries a materials pack as lessons and downloads: the Family Charter Template, Outreach Scripts and a Tracking Sheet, the Money-Meeting Agenda Set, the Licensing-Screen Worksheet, and the AI Bench Prompt Pack. Every download carries the same worksheets and templates the lessons teach, ready to print or copy.
The AI tools are taught as a method: named jobs, review discipline, and a named tool for each job, on a free tier. Those tools are ChatGPT, Perplexity, Wix, Canva, Todoist, and Microsoft Excel for the web, so use free tiers first and check each tool's current terms before relying on any of them.
Who Owns This
Three groups own the first move, and each move is small enough to make this week.
- Households: Complete the Household Stability Audit before taking any business step, and keep the finished worksheet where everyone taking part can read it.
- Reentry programs and the counselors who work with them: Put the free Starter Guide in front of the people you serve, ask them to work the first three steps in order, and point every legal question to the official sources for their state.
- Everyone taking part in a household business: Write the pay-the-household rule down before the first payment, and remember that every role is voluntary and revocable at any time.
The Decision
The test: Write down, today, where your household stands on housing, supervision conditions, identification and documents, banking access, and the benefits cliff. If any line is blank, the floor is unmeasured.
The design failure: A blank line is a design failure, not a people failure, because a plan that starts with the business idea has skipped the step that shows what the idea can safely stand on.
The next step: Start with the free Starter Guide, so the first test costs nothing but the time it takes to write the answers down. The complete curriculum is $97, one payment, with all seven units, every workbook, and the full materials pack.

Skipping the audit is still a decision. It just gets made by default.
Until next time, keep building what they said couldn't be built.
